Transect Program FAQs

Q. When I Logon to the CropRes program (www.nrcs.usda.gov/cropres), there are no buttons to click, only the message "Click the buttons to upload files or view status report."  I am using Netscape on an NT machine.
A. This will be brought to ITC's attention.  A quick solution is to use Internet Explorer - it will properly show the buttons and other screen content that is missing in Netscape.  NOTE: Some Netscape browsers on NT do show the buttons fine - not everyone is experiencing this problem with Netscape.
Q. We may have a county or two that doesn't have 200 data points -  will this be a problem?
A. CropRes will give tillage system by crop regardless of the number of points.  Need to advice counties not to place too much confidence in the results, though, if fewer than 200 points are used.
Q. Tried to get into www.nrcs.usda.gov/cropres.  It won't accept my login/password.  I tried getting into PRMS system and it lets me in there, though.
A. The authentication program has trouble with the ampersand (&) character, and fails because that character is in some users' PRMS user profile. (For example, one user had the "Lewis & Clark Conservation District" selected as a location for which he enters PRMS data.)  The solution is to replace the & character with the word "and".
Q. "Our NRCS office recently completed our tillage transect and logged all of the required data into the computer. We tracked our irrigation entrys, about 1/3 of the county is irrigated. The problem is that somehow all the points were changed to irrigated. I'm not sure how this happened, I was experimenting with some filter/sorts when I noticed all the irrigated tracking had changed to irrigated. Is there anyway I can recall the original irrigated tracking entrys?"
A.

This issue has been fixed in release 1.0.1.

Q. "I've pressed "Complete Project" and exported the data.  Now where do I find the results?"
A. When you export, a text file is created in the root of the C: drive.  It will be named [State][County].txt.  For example: AlabamaButler.txt. This file will be uploaded into PRMS when ITC finishes the program.
Q. "I've exported the data but now need to edit some of the points.  What can I do?"
A. If you are using version 1.0.1 of the Access Transect Program, there is an import button in the upper left corner of the program.  Use this to bring the data back into the Access Transect Program.
Q. "We did our part - now what do we do with the results?"
A. As soon as ITC has the PRMS CropRes Program in place, you will be notified.  You will then "upload" your data to the system.
Q. "I need to enter data for several counties, but the program only allows me to enter data for one county.  What do I do?"
A. You must complete one county before beginning another.  When you use the "Complete Project" button, you are exporting the entire county's data to a text file (for use in the PRMS CropRes Program).  At this point you may begin with a new county.
Q. "I'm finished for the day, but I still have data to enter.  Do I click on "Stop" or "Complete Project"?"
A. You need to use the "Stop" button.  This exits the program but leaves your data intact.  Using the "Complete Project" button causes all of your data to be exported to a text file (for the PRMS CropRes Program) and will remove it from the Access Transect Program.
