NEWS RELEASE FOR
RELEASE October 4, 2001 Joint
Effort Works for Source Water Protection
WEST
LAFAYETTE, Ind. The
Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) announces its joint effort
with Water Process, Inc. to help build new alliances between drinking water
utilities and agricultural organizations. These alliances will focus on
protecting drinking water sources from contamination and reducing pollution in
the source water area. CTIC,
a public-private partnership located in West Lafayette, Ind., is leading this
nationwide effort to identify strategies that drinking water utilities can use
to build successful source water protection alliances with agricultural
organizations at local, state and national levels. Water Process, Inc. is a
small and focused research and consulting firm specializing in drinking water
treatment processes and technologies. Funded
through the American Water Works Association Research Foundation, the project
will develop valuable tools for existing and new utility/ag alliances. First,
the project will compile and assess up to 25 case studies of existing alliances
to learn what works and doesn’t work in this kind of collaborative effort.
Next spring, technical experts and other leaders in water utilities and
agriculture will attend a workshop to identify policy, funding and resource
issues critical to forming effective alliances. The workshop will determine the
focus of a national conference, to be held in fall 2002, which will provide for
information exchange among participants and build momentum for additional
alliance development around the nation. For
more information on this new project, please contact either Ed Frye or Dan
Towery at the Conservation Technology Information Center at 765-494-9555 or ctic@ctic.purdue.edu.
Project information also will be available on the CTIC web site at
www.ctic.purdue.edu. ###
